iSafe Antivirus Bit Me
Man, it seems like you’re just not safe anywhere on the Internet. I’d heard of rogue security programs before, but I thought I was basically safe from them. It turns out that I was wrong when I got infected by iSafe Antivirus.
I knew something was wrong when iSafe Antivirus started. I know what my antivirus program is, as well as my antispyware program. Needless to say, I was surprised when iSafe Antivirus started up. It wasn’t my antivirus program, so why did it care if I got infected?
I’m getting a bit ahead of myself. This all started when I was watching videos on the Internet. I heard about a rare video that I just had to see. YouTube didn’t have it, so I thought I’d search it. I found it, or so I thought, on a Web site that I hadn’t been to before. I clicked on the video icon, and it told me that it was downloading a video codec. That’s when iSafe Antivirus struck.
I didn’t know then that this was an infected Web site, nor that the so called video codec was actually the Zlob Trojan Downloader. I only found that out after I got infected by iSafe Antivirus and began looking around for information about this bug. Again, I’m getting ahead of myself.
The first thing that happened was that the iSafe Antivirus pop up screen appeared. It asked me if I wanted to run a free scan on my computer. I said no, but it went ahead and started scanning. Like I said, I heard about these rogue security tools before, and I knew what was going down.
Immediately, I used the three-finger kill switch (Ctrl-Alt-Delete pressed simultaneously, in case you don’t know) and killed my browser and the program. I smugly thought that I had successfully avoided an iSafe Antivirus infection. Ten minutes later, it came back.
This time, I just shut down my computer and restarted it. I thought for sure that I had foiled iSafe Antivirus. Ten minutes later, I found out that it was no such luck.
Now I was determined. It was official: I had an iSafe infection. I ran my antispyware program. An hour later, it said that there was nothing wrong. My head became very familiar with my desk at that moment.
I guess it goes to show that you get what you pay for when you have free antispyware software. I pretty much had no choice, so I started shopping for a new antispyware program. I didn’t want to pay too much for it, but I had to effectively kill iSafe Antivirus. I knew that my antispyware program was supposed to be better than most paid programs, so that made my shopping a little more difficult.
Eventually, I had an epiphany. I decided to search for a 100% removal guarantee. This search narrowed my results down to one. SpyZooka was the only program that made this guarantee. I took it for a spin, and sure enough, it killed iSafe Antivirus within five minutes. Awesome!
